Our work encompasses nonprofits, NGOs, governments, and new business startups although other work may be carried out on request.
Our strengths in the grantwriting process are in idea generation, conceptualization, logic modeling, program planning/development, and shaping a narrative to be used to gain internal and external buy-in on the proposal. We also do final proposal writing and submission when requested.
My grantwriting skills come from developing business proposals in general management positions with P&L responsibility; fifteen years of teaching and research with grant and scholarly writing experience; and work in support of grant proposals for government and nonprofits. That multi-disciplinary background provides content expertise in a variety of areas such as business management, social welfare, public health, human services, gerontology, and marketing. As a result, we are well prepared to assist proposals involving multiple disciplines.
I carry out evaluation and performance measurement work primarily in conjunction with grantwriting assignments. Quite frankly, a great many grant proposals are strong appeals to the heart and mind but weak in quantification of bottom-line results. As a result, I help clients with designing the evaluation portions of their grant proposals and with developing performance measurement metrics to include in proposals. Other associates are involved as required.
My background in evaluation research includes a doctorate in public health and a doctoral fellowship at CDC along with two strong masters programs with grounding in evaluation. My expertise in performance measurement comes from private sector P&L management. Expertise of other associates ranges from human resources to GIS and real property analysis.
I do organizational development work as well as resource development. In resource development, I provide grant writing services (as described elsewhere on this site) as well as assistance with fundraising campaigns, major donor solicitation, and materials such as case statements. I also do some very limited work with special events, primarily in support of an established staff person or contractor with primary responsibility.
I have 10 years of teaching community practice work in social work programs and working with students in support of development activities for nonprofits. My work in organizational development is built on a career in private sector management, public sector work, and academic programs focused on organizational and community change including a Ph.D. in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior Change and an MSW in Planning, Administration, and Behavior Change. Expertise of other associates covers a variety of areas.
The term scholarship includes primary and secondary research as well as dissemination. My primary focus is on dissemination involving conference presentations, peer-reviewed journal articles, and popular press articles based on evidence-based results of programs or projects. I also do literature reviews both on a stand-alone basis as well as part of grant proposals. My work in primary research is limited to survey research involving questionnaire design and implementation, focus groups, and related activities such as opinion polling. Other associates for the firm are available for scholarly work in a variety of areas.
My background includes some 47 national and international presentations, peer-reviewed publications, teaching materials, and a variety of other scholarship-related activities including scientific grantwriting. My educational background includes 12 years of university teaching and a Fulbright Scholarship in Public Administration in Russia (Research and teaching in government public relations); Ph.D. in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior Change (focus on IT in public sector applications and social marketing); Doctoral Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control (research in privatization of public services and IT use in public health); MSW in Planning, Administration, and Community Development; Graduate Certificate in Gerontology (specialization in demographics changes of older adults); MBA (Entrepreneurship); and a BA in Economics.
As well as university teaching, we also provide short courses and professional education on subjects such as grantwriting, public relations, evaluation, and conflict resolution.
Academic and training courses are available on a wide variety of subjects. Academic teaching includes grantwriting, public relations, e-government, community health, and several other areas. In addition, training courses are available from one-hour brown-bag workshops to several day sessions. Subjects include conflict resolution, civic engagement, public sector communications, and many other subjects. Please contact us for a detailed list.
My own background includes over 40 professional education presentations at the local and state level as well as 47 national and international juried presentations. As noted elsewhere, my educational background also includes 12 years of university teaching and a Fulbright Scholarship in Public Administration in Russia (Research and teaching in government public relations); Ph.D. in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior Change (focus on IT in public sector applications and social marketing); Doctoral Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control (research in privatization of public services and IT use in public health); MSW in Planning, Administration, and Community Development (focus on organizational development); Graduate Certificate in Gerontology (specialization in demographics changes of older adults); MBA (Entrepreneurship); and a BA in Economics. Other associates of the firm have equivalent qualifications in their own area of expertise.
